“School Lockdown in Riverdale: Police Arrest 15-Year-Old Suspect Amid Security Scare”

Toronto authorities have apprehended a 15-year-old adolescent in connection with an incident in Riverdale that prompted nine local schools to be put on lockdown or shelter in place protocols on Wednesday.

According to reports from CityNews, police were alerted to a potential threat towards a student at a school in the vicinity around 9:25 a.m.

Law enforcement did not initially disclose the specific school involved, but as a precaution, nine nearby schools were placed on hold and secure or shelter in place status:

Following an investigation to ascertain the validity of the threat, the hold and secure measures were lifted by approximately 1:30 p.m.

The Toronto District School Board revealed on Thursday that the threat was directed at a student at Eastdale Collegiate Institute by an unidentified individual.

Subsequently, a 15-year-old male was taken into custody by police and is now facing multiple weapon-related charges, including possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a weapon, and wearing a face mask or disguise.

The teenager was set to make a court appearance on Thursday.
