Montreal To Host UCI Road World Championships: Traffic Updates and Event Schedule
Get ready, Montreal! The city is about to be taken over by the world’s elite cyclists as the UCI Road World Championships kick off this weekend. From September 19 to 27, Montreal will see a series of road closures and traffic disruptions to accommodate the prestigious cycling competition.
To facilitate transportation during the event, the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain is offering a special $55 transit fare, allowing unlimited travel in zones A, B, and C throughout the championships. For motorists needing to cross the race circuit, five continuous crossings will be available, including one on Sherbrooke Street and four in Old Montreal.
The action begins on Saturday, September 19, with cyclists hitting the streets for training from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Road obstacles will be in place until 5:30 p.m. for participants of the Rando Vélo Beneva. Park Avenue and several other streets will experience closures during this time.
On Sunday, September 20, the official competition kicks off with women’s and men’s races covering 39.2 kilometers. The race route will take cyclists through various parts of Montreal, including downtown and the Samuel De Champlain Bridge.
Throughout the week, the competition will move to different areas of the city, including a Mount Royal circuit. Road closures and traffic obstructions will be in effect to accommodate the races, with various events taking place each day.
Don’t miss the women’s elite road race on September 26 and the men’s race on September 27, starting in the DIX30 district in Brossard. The races will cover significant distances, showcasing the skills of top cyclists in both the women’s and men’s categories.
