Montreal’s blue-collar workers have successfully averted a potential strike by reaching a new collective agreement with the City of Montreal just before the deadline. Over 6,000 blue-collar workers were on the verge of a seven-day strike, but the strike has been called off with the agreement in place.
The unionized workers will soon vote on this new agreement, which comes after nearly two years without a collective agreement. Union president Nicolas De Ciccio praised the workers for their patience and determination, highlighting their resilience in securing this settlement.
The previous collective agreement for Montreal’s blue-collar workers had expired on Jan. 1, 2025. Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada expressed relief at the agreement, calling it a positive development for the city. She commended the efforts of both parties in reaching a resolution, emphasizing the importance of constructive dialogue and collaboration to ensure quality services for Montreal residents.
