A 19-year-old individual from Whitby, identified as Alexander Parfitt, has been arrested and charged with making threats against a synagogue in Durham Region. The arrest came following an investigation into alleged threats made on an online message board, targeting the synagogue. Durham police acted swiftly on information received from a law enforcement partner and executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in Whitby. Parfitt was taken into custody and is facing charges of making threats motivated by hate. Police have ramped up patrols around Jewish places of worship in light of the upcoming Jewish High Holidays to ensure the safety of the community.
