With over 35,000 patients seeking help annually, the ER is in dire need of more room for efficient care. Although the number of stretchers won’t change, the renovation promises an enhanced layout and increased space for better patient management.
Hospital authorities anticipate that the revamped department will empower their staff to handle a higher volume of patients, potentially boosting capacity by up to 30 percent in the future.
The extensive three-year project aims to streamline patient flow and reduce emergency-room wait times in the long run. While the exact impact on wait times remains uncertain, the hospital is optimistic about the improvements.
Fueled by philanthropy, including a share of the massive $145-million estate contribution from the late Paul Du Rocher in 2024, this initiative marks a significant step in enhancing healthcare services in Quebec.
