In a significant bust, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has announced its largest-ever seizure of cocaine, totaling nearly 329 kilograms of the illicit substance. Valued at a staggering $5.8 million, the drugs were discovered in a shipping container located in the southeast area of the city.
The seizure unfolded when employees at a local business made a startling discovery on July 21. Among a shipment of T-shirts, they uncovered 14 duffle bags filled with cocaine, prompting them to alert the authorities immediately.
Sgt. Travis Fraser emphasized that the business had no involvement with the illegal substance, stating, “Obviously, the business was shocked by what it found.” The presence of a substantial amount of drugs, along with distinct stamps and packaging, strongly indicates the involvement of organized crime in the operation, as noted by Fraser.
Investigations revealed that the shipping container originated from Honduras on May 18, then made stops in Jamaica on June 6 before reaching Montreal on July 5. Fraser highlighted that the intention was likely for the cocaine to be offloaded before reaching its final destination but somehow remained on board.
The VPD disclosed that it is collaborating with the RCMP and authorities in Canada, Honduras, Jamaica, and the United States as part of their ongoing investigation into this significant drug bust.
