The heart of Montreal’s Chinatown, once home to the iconic Wing Noodles factory, is set to undergo a remarkable transformation as plans unfold to create a vibrant cultural hub for the community.
The Wing’s Block Partners Table, spearheaded by the JIA Foundation, envisions breathing new life into this historic block while honoring its rich heritage. Nestled on De La Gauchetière, Saint-Urbain, and Côté streets, the block currently houses a tapestry of landmarks including the beloved Wings factory, the Chinese Association of Montreal, and the former S. Davis & Sons cigar factory, some of which trace their roots back to 1826.
Teaming up with Heritage Montreal, the coalition aims to rejuvenate the block into a dynamic space featuring lively storefronts, communal areas, events that celebrate Asian culture, public art installations, historical showcases, and more. Emphasizing the preservation of the area’s unique history and culinary traditions, the project is committed to promoting safety and inclusivity within the revitalized space.
To ensure that the community’s voice is heard, residents, businesses, and local organizations are invited to contribute their ideas and shape the future of the Wing’s Block. The JIA Foundation, along with architecture firm Rayside Labossière and Heritage Montreal, will host a panel discussion to further engage stakeholders in this exciting initiative.
