Premier Christine Fréchette expressed deep concern over the potential for foreign interference in the upcoming Quebec elections.
Addressing the public in Quebec City on Friday, Fréchette highlighted the emergence of troubling information regarding foreign meddling in the election process. The Quebecor media reported earlier in the day that the U.S. government had allegedly engaged in direct negotiations with Quebec regarding customs duties, sparking further apprehension.
Fréchette wasted no time in reaching out to her federal counterpart, Mark Carney, requesting an urgent meeting to address the issue comprehensively. Emphasizing the importance of transparency, she stressed the need for complete disclosure to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
“Our commitment is clear: only the voices of Quebec residents should shape the outcome of our elections,” Fréchette asserted.
With the Quebec election scheduled for October 5, efforts to ensure a fair and untainted democratic process are at the forefront of government agendas.
