Brandon McNulty claimed victory in the prestigious elite men’s road race at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships held in Montreal over the weekend, breaking a three-decade dry spell for American male cyclists.
McNulty, aged 28, displayed an impressive performance as he surged ahead of his competitors, finishing the challenging 273-kilometer course in a remarkable time of six hours and 17 minutes, crossing the finish line 13 seconds ahead of the rest.
In a closely contested race, Australian rider Michael Matthews secured the second position, while Mathieu van der Poel from the Netherlands, a previous title-holder, clinched the third spot.
This win marks the end of a lengthy American drought at the event, with the last victory by an American rider dating back to Lance Armstrong’s triumph in 1993.
