A recent study conducted by Tecnic reveals that many drivers in Quebec are aware of the risks on the road but are not consistently adjusting their driving habits to ensure safety.
According to the Tecnic Barometer, a staggering 86% of drivers admit to feeling stressed while driving, with 76% experiencing distractions behind the wheel. Surprisingly, less than half of the respondents mentioned always modifying their driving behavior during winter conditions: only 48% consistently increase their following distance, and 39% always reduce their speed.
Additionally, about 41% of Quebec license holders do not feel secure on the roads in the province.
Isabel St-Laurent, the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Tecnic, emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in road safety. She highlighted the need for drivers to adjust their driving behavior based on prevailing conditions to enhance overall road safety.
The survey also noted that the primary sources of stress and distraction vary with the changing seasons. Weather conditions were the top distraction in winter, while traffic congestion and aggressive driving behavior from others were more prevalent in spring.
Tecnic aims to use the insights from its Barometer to provide practical road safety advice and contribute to a broader discussion on enhancing road safety in Quebec.
