A truck driver from Edmonton found themselves in hot water after being caught speeding through a school zone in Prince George, B.C., at a whopping 81 km/h earlier this month. The 34-year-old driver not only had his vehicle impounded but also faced multiple fines for various violations, including excessive speeding, lack of insurance, and having out-of-province registration.
The BC Highway Patrol reported that the truck was clocked by a laser reader going 51 km/h over the speed limit near Pine View Elementary School on Sept. 9. Upon pulling over the tractor-trailer, authorities discovered some concerning defects, particularly ineffective brakes. This prompted the involvement of the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE), resulting in both the trailer and the tractor being taken off the road for repairs.
Sgt. Michael McLaughlin emphasized the importance of road safety, stating, “We’d rather you obey the law and drive safely, but if you choose otherwise, we’ll pass along financial consequences.” The driver is expected to face a hefty bill of $3,000, covering expenses for towing, impounding, tickets, and inspections as a result of the violations.
Additionally, the school-zone operation on Sept. 9 led to another vehicle being impounded for excessive speed, along with citations for speeding, tinted windows, and illegible license plates among other offenses. McLaughlin reassured the public that law enforcement is actively monitoring road safety across the province to ensure compliance and prevent dangerous driving behavior.
