“Suspicion Rises with the Flames: Late-Night Fire at Dorothy Lynas Elementary Under Investigation”

An overnight fire broke out at Dorothy Lynas Elementary in North Vancouver, and authorities are treating the incident as suspicious. The District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (DNVFRS) responded to alarms at the school around 12:45 a.m. on Friday, discovering a fire on the south side of the building.

DNVFRS Assistant Chief Scott Ferguson reported that firefighting crews worked for 25 to 30 minutes to contain the fire, which had affected multiple areas including a doorway and the roof. Firefighters had to navigate under the roof and open up walls to prevent further spreading of the fire, leaving smoke damage throughout the school.

A total of five units and 25 firefighters were mobilized to combat the blaze. While investigations are ongoing, initial reports suggest that the fire originated at the southern end of the building, according to the North Vancouver RCMP.

As a result of the fire, the school remained closed on Friday but is scheduled to reopen on Monday, October 5th.
