Five individuals from overseas are currently under arrest as part of a police operation investigating the blackmailing of members within British Columbia’s South Asian community.
According to Supt. Harm Dosange of the Langley RCMP, the inquiry was initiated in June 2025 after the owners of a car dealership reported the incidents to the authorities.
The series of blackmail attempts were accompanied by incidents of gun violence and arson in the areas of Langley and Surrey in British Columbia.
Dosange highlighted the significant challenges that investigators faced during the course of their work, both within Canada and on an international scale.
The five suspects, all in their twenties, are facing a range of charges, including extortion, arson, possession of illegal substances, and multiple firearm-related offenses.
Chief Supt. Duncan Pound, who heads the extortion task force in B.C., mentioned that during the trial, there will be discussions about potential links to the India-based Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Pound cautioned that criminals often falsely claim association with high-profile criminal organizations in order to profit financially.
