Kelowna RCMP are currently probing a kidnapping incident that unfolded when an individual was forcibly taken from the Lower Mainland as a means to apply pressure on an acquaintance.
Late in the evening on September 28, Kelowna RCMP received a report of suspicious activities in the vicinity of Sands Court and Gibbs Road East.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a person who had allegedly been abducted from the Lower Mainland and confined against their wishes at a nearby dwelling. The victim was transported to Kelowna by unidentified individuals.
The victim, not suspected of any unlawful activities, appears to have a connection with someone whom the abductors were attempting to coerce.
The investigation into this targeted incident, deemed not to pose a threat to the general public, has been assumed by the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit. Collaboration with law enforcement agencies in the Lower Mainland is ongoing to unravel the circumstances leading to the victim’s abduction.
A search warrant was obtained for the residence where the victim claimed to have been held. Subsequently, one individual was apprehended but later released pending further inquiries.
Staff Sgt. Tim Russell of Kelowna RCMP Investigative Services emphasized that the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, with efforts underway to fully comprehend the events surrounding the victim’s claims.
Individuals who may have spotted the vehicle described in the report or possess dash camera/surveillance footage are urged to reach out to the authorities.
A white Dodge Ram Rebel pickup truck, believed to be a recent model, is suspected to have been involved and was sighted in the vicinity between midnight and 2 a.m. on September 28.
