A man from Toronto is in custody after being connected to two reported sexual assaults within the same Rexdale neighborhood.
The Toronto Police Service (TPS) reported that officers were called to the scene of a sexual assault on Aug. 19 near Albion Road and Silverstone Drive. A woman was walking in the area around 9 p.m. when a suspect emerged from a nearby townhouse complex, allegedly assaulted her, and then fled back into the complex.
A similar incident occurred a few weeks later in the same vicinity. On Sept. 9, police responded to a report of another sexual assault involving a female victim walking in the neighborhood at a similar time of day. According to investigators, the victim identified the same suspect exiting a townhouse complex before he proceeded to assault her and escape into a nearby residential complex.
After an extensive investigation, authorities arrested Adnan Koya, a 39-year-old resident of Toronto, who now faces two charges of sexual assault. His court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 20.
Investigators suspect there may be additional victims and have provided a description of the accused to aid in the identification of potential contacts with him. Koya is described as being between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, with a medium build, brown eyes, a bald head, and a stubble beard. He was reportedly wearing a blue jacket with the hood up and black track pants during the incidents, with a distinctive shuffling walk.
