Liberal MP Doly Begum Throws Support Behind Olivia Chow in Toronto Mayoral Race

Liberal Member of Parliament Doly Begum from Scarborough Southwest has officially thrown her support behind mayoral candidate Olivia Chow for re-election as Toronto’s mayor. In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Begum praised Chow as a “great leader” known for her compassion, care, and wealth of experience.

Expressing the need for a leader who deeply cares for the city and its residents, Begum endorsed Chow to lead the fight for Toronto during challenging times.

Begum is not alone in her endorsement, as three other Liberal MPs from Scarborough, namely Gary Anandasangaree, Jean Yip, and Salma Zahid, have also backed Chow. Additionally, Rob Oliphant from Don Valley West has pledged his support for Chow’s re-election bid.

Chow’s campaign has gained momentum with endorsements from various organizations like the Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association, LiUNA Local 183, and the Toronto & York Region Labour Council. Notable figures like Jim Cuddy from Blue Rodeo have also pledged their support to Chow’s campaign.

With Chris Alexander exiting the mayoral race, Chow now faces Brad Bradford in what is shaping up to be a competitive two-way contest. Leading in multiple polls, Chow has a strong foothold, with Liaison Strategies’ latest poll showing her ahead of Bradford by nine percentage points among decided and leaning voters.

Toronto residents can cast their votes on Oct. 26, with advanced polls already open since Tuesday.
