Montreal’s Mayor Emphasizes Collaboration with New Quebec Government for Homelessness Solutions
Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada of Montreal sees the recent election of the Parti Québécois government as an opportunity for enhanced cooperation. With the new premier hailing from a Montreal riding, Martinez Ferrada believes it can lead to a stronger partnership between Quebec and the city.
Following the PQ’s win, the mayor highlighted homelessness as a key focus for Montreal moving forward in collaboration with the incoming government. She emphasized the need for sustained efforts to address homelessness, including providing housing and increased support from the healthcare system for vulnerable individuals on the streets.
Pointing to the significance of the fact that the new premier, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, represents the National Assembly seat for Camille-Laurin in Montreal’s East End, Martinez Ferrada expressed optimism for a more robust partnership between the provincial government and the city.
In addition to homelessness, the mayor also underscored public transit and infrastructure as crucial topics for discussion with the new minority government. Martinez Ferrada mentioned that she had a productive conversation with St-Pierre Plamondon and looks forward to collaborating with the new administration.
The mayor emphasized that these priorities are not just vital for Montreal but for the entire province of Quebec, recognizing the importance of united efforts in addressing these pressing issues.
