Quebec’s police oversight agency, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), is currently investigating a shooting incident involving provincial police officers near Montreal. The incident unfolded in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, where police responded to reports of an armed individual in crisis at a residence in the Montérégie region on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the BEI, the armed suspect allegedly fired shots at the officers, prompting them to return fire outside the residence. The individual was subsequently taken to the hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.
The Montreal police (SPVM) have been called in to support the ongoing investigation, as the BEI appeals to any witnesses or individuals with video recordings of the event to come forward either online or at the mobile command post near the scene.
