The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) has announced the occurrence of two tornadoes in southern Quebec at the end of August.
According to the NTP’s recent report, on August 27, two tornadoes made landfall near La Tuque in the Mauricie region.
The first tornado, classified as an EF2 with wind speeds reaching 190 km/h, hit Lac Restigouche at 4 p.m. Drone footage captured by a local resident documented the tornado’s trajectory and the extent of damage it caused. The tornado traveled a distance of almost 3 kilometers and spanned 370 meters in width.
Shortly after, another tornado, confirmed as an EF1 with winds of up to 145 km/h, touched down in Lac du Guide, approximately 50 kilometers north of the first. Analysis based on satellite imagery revealed that this tornado cut through a forested area for nearly 2.5 kilometers, with a width of 300 meters.
With these latest confirmations, Quebec has experienced a total of nine tornadoes in 2026 so far.
