Elon Musk, the prominent tech figure, has expressed his support for Quebec’s potential independence, suggesting that Saskatchewan and Alberta should also consider cutting ties with Canada. Musk’s endorsement came in response to Quebec premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon’s statement about the province’s eventual independence.
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, however, had a succinct reply to Musk’s proposal, simply stating “No” on social media.
Musk, known for his influential role in the tech industry and previous ties to former U.S. President Donald Trump, took to his social media platform to advocate for Quebec’s independence, believing it would be beneficial not only for the province but also for the Prairie provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta.
While Moe has affirmed his commitment to Canada, he has expressed willingness to consider a public vote on separation in Saskatchewan if there is significant support from residents through a petition.
In Alberta, Premier Danielle Smith has responded to similar sentiments by including a question on the upcoming referendum, scheduled for Oct. 19, regarding the province’s future within Canada or the possibility of holding a second referendum specifically on separation.
Smith, who has declared her intention to vote in favor of remaining in Canada, has not yet provided a response to Musk’s recent remarks.
