In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a devastating fire tore through a section of a two-storey residential building in Montreal’s Parc-Extension neighborhood, resulting in three individuals being hospitalized.
Responding to a 911 call reporting the sound of an explosion on Saint-Roch Street near de l’Épée Avenue around 2:30 a.m., the Montreal fire department (SIM) swiftly dispatched over 100 firefighters to contain the blaze. Police officers were on site to manage traffic during the firefighting operation.
Three men sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment; however, their conditions are stable, and their lives are not in immediate danger.
The intensity of the fire caused a portion of the building to collapse, prompting the evacuation of residents. The Canadian Red Cross stepped in to assist approximately 30 tenants affected by the incident.
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, Montreal police have stated that there are currently no indications of criminal activity involved.
The investigation into the fire is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the destructive blaze.
