Montreal is well-known among locals as a haven for food enthusiasts, boasting a myriad of restaurants waiting to be explored and savored. Now, Google Maps is delving deeper into this culinary landscape by analyzing data to determine the most sought-after dining establishments in the city and nine other major global cities.
After studying a year’s worth of data, Google compiled a unique list of the most popular restaurants and must-visit culinary hotspots in cities like Montreal, Atlanta, Chicago, London, and Tokyo. The analysis was based on reviews, ratings, and directions requests on Google Maps.
Among the interesting findings, it was discovered that Montrealers have a penchant for sweets, with an 84% increase in mentions of cinnamon buns. Notable bakeries like Guayabito, Daddy Roll, and Bernice were highlighted in the data.
The data also revealed rising food trends in Montreal, such as a 59% increase in shawarma sandwiches and a 37% rise in mentions of matcha over the past year. Popular dining destinations where people most frequently requested directions included Bar George, Ma Poule Mouillée, Schwartz’s Deli, La Banquise, and Yokato Yokabai Ramen.
In the realm of beverages, Montrealers showed a keen interest in locations like Crew Collective & Café, September Cafe, Café Olimpico, Café Alphabet, and Maison Café. In the category of “big portions and small checks,” Montreal ranked eighth globally, with Dinette Dorée standing out. Atlanta clinched the top spot with its BACHI BOX restaurant.
