The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has announced that charges have been filed against a suspect in connection with two reported home intrusions in South Vancouver. Daryl Silas Hunt, aged 64, is being charged with one count of attempted break-in and one count of actual break-in.
According to police reports, at approximately 9:45 a.m., a man was seen removing a window screen in an attempt to enter a residence in the vicinity of East 49th Avenue and McKinnon Street. The homeowner heard the commotion and confronted the individual, who then fled the scene without taking any belongings.
Shortly after, in a separate incident around 10:15 a.m., a man matching the description of the earlier suspect broke a window to gain entry into a house near West 48th Avenue and Ontario Street. It is alleged that this individual successfully stole multiple items from the property.
Following these incidents, the VPD swiftly mobilized its Canine Unit and officers to track down and apprehend a suspect matching the description of the alleged intruder. The police suspect that Hunt may be linked to additional break-ins in the Vancouver area.
Daryl Silas Hunt is currently in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on October 15 for further proceedings.
