On a sunny Saturday, a community came together to honor the vibrant spirit of JahVai Roy, a young boy tragically killed by a stray bullet while he slept in his North York home in August 2025.
Holly Roy, JahVai’s mother, shared her heartache and determination, declaring, “I will turn my pain into purpose.” The gathering she organized was a heartfelt occasion for families to unite, enjoy music, engage in children’s activities, and cherish the memory of her beloved son.
Describing JahVai as athletic, energetic, and compassionate, Holly expressed her desire to focus not on the tragedy of his passing but on celebrating his life with love and purpose.
In a devastating incident outside their residence at 15 Martha Eaton Way, near Trethewey Drive, a shootout unfolded just before midnight on August 16, 2025. Authorities discovered JahVai in his bed with a gunshot wound, leading to his untimely death despite efforts to save him.
While two more apartment units were struck during the exchange of gunfire, thankfully, no other injuries were reported.
Three young individuals, aged between 15 and 18 at the time of the fatal incident, have since been apprehended and charged with first-degree murder.
