Tragedy struck in southwestern Ontario as a small plane crash claimed the lives of two individuals.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the incident occurred in a field near the junction of Beatty Line and Wellington Road 17 on the outskirts of Fergus at approximately 10:15 a.m. last Friday.
The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) revealed that an amateur-built Skybolt biplane took off from the Fergus airport at 10 a.m. for a local aerobatic training flight, piloted by two experienced aviators.
Shortly after departure, the aircraft crashed into a corn field about 2 kilometers northwest of the airfield, ultimately coming to a rest in an inverted position, as stated by the TSB.
Emergency responders managed to extinguish a fire that broke out post-crash, but unfortunately, both occupants of the plane succumbed to the tragic accident at the crash site.
Details regarding the ages, genders, and hometowns of the victims have not yet been disclosed.
The TSB assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted over the following weeks to determine the root cause of the devastating crash.
