Over the weekend, Montreal was abuzz with the vibrant energy of around 35,000 runners who laced up their shoes to participate in the exciting Canadian 5K Championship, the Half Marathon Shop Santé, and the Marathon events.
The city came alive with 21 cheering stations, including a special one at the 19.76 km mark dedicated to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Montreal Olympic Games.
“It’s truly heartening to witness 35,000 runners coming together at dawn to join us in this incredible event. Each runner crossing the starting line reinforces our belief at COURONS that running in unity propels us forward. The Marathon Beneva de Montréal is not just a race; it’s a community in the making, the bonds formed, the spirited cheers of the Montreal crowd, the dedicated volunteers who make it all possible, and the experienced team that shares their passion year after year. In the Canadian 5K Championship, Matthew Beaudet and Julie-Anne Staehli emerged as the victors on Saturday. Robin Lefebvre and Sabrina Lavigne clinched the titles in the Quebec Mile Championship.
Ethiopia’s Alem Gebremariam triumphed in the Women’s Elite Marathon, clocking in at 2:29:17, while Kenya’s Geoffrey Birgen secured the Men’s Elite Marathon title with a time of 2:16:29.
