Brampton Woman Faces Charges for Identity Theft in Vehicle Purchase Scheme, Police Report

A woman from Brampton, Skylar Porter, has been arrested on charges related to an auto-financing fraud scheme in Durham Region. The incident unfolded when, on Sept. 30, she allegedly used someone else’s identity to apply for financing to buy a 2027 Mercedes SUV from the local dealership.

Durham police disclosed that the application submitted by Porter included a Canadian passport bearing the victim’s information but her own photo. Despite the approval of the application and the arrangement of financing, the victim was alerted before the vehicle could be released, leading to police intervention.

On Oct.8, authorities apprehended Porter at the dealership when she arrived to finalize the purchase and collect the SUV. The 39-year-old now faces multiple charges, including fraud over $5,000, possession of forged documents, identity theft, and drug possession.

Moreover, police suspect there may be more victims connected to this fraudulent activity. They urge anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
