The Montreal Canadiens have called up defenseman David Reinbacher from the AHL’s Laval Rocket in preparation for their upcoming match against the Washington Capitals. This decision follows an injury to veteran defenseman Mike Matheson during a recent game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Matheson’s absence was felt in Tuesday’s 4-3 shootout win against the Buffalo Sabres, with the player currently listed as day-to-day. In light of this, Reinbacher, who was drafted by Montreal as the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NHL draft, has been brought in to bolster the team.
Aged 21 and hailing from Austria, Reinbacher made his NHL debut last April and played two games with the Canadiens in the past season. Montreal, aiming for their third consecutive victory, will face off against Washington tonight.
