North Vancouver Residents Encouraged to Welcome Colombian Navy’s ARC Gloria with 17-Gun Salute
Excitement filled the air near Burrard Pier on Wednesday morning as the Colombian Navy’s sailing vessel, the ARC Gloria, made its way to the north shore. North Vancouver Mounties assured residents not to be alarmed by the loud noises of the 17-gun salute in honor of the ship’s arrival around 9:30 a.m.
The ARC Gloria, a 57-year-old flagship of the Colombian Navy, serves as a training vessel for cadets and a symbolic “floating ambassador” for Colombia. Visitors are invited to explore the ship for free until Saturday, courtesy of the city’s Lower Lonsdale Business Improvement Area Society (BIA).
North Vancouver is the exclusive Canadian port of call for The Gloria, as it embarks on a journey to showcase Colombia’s rich cultural and economic exports. Don’t miss the chance to experience a piece of Colombia’s maritime heritage right in your own backyard!
