A shooting incident outside a residence in Newmarket has left one person hospitalized, marking the second such incident at the same location within a week, according to authorities.
Police from York Regional Police (YRP) responded to a call at a home on Hewitt Circle, situated near Bathurst Street and Mulock Drive, shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Upon arrival, officers found one individual outside the residence who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious, yet non-life-threatening injuries.
Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Anderson revealed that the suspect had arrived in a vehicle, fired shots from the driveway area, and then quickly fled the scene. No details about the suspect have been released as of now.
Investigators are actively working to establish any potential connection between the victim and the targeted residence. It was disclosed that the same home had been shot at previously in the early hours of Oct. 16, resulting in property damage but no injuries.
Given the circumstances, residents can anticipate heightened police presence in the vicinity as law enforcement officers continue their inquiries.
