“Old Montreal in Crisis: Major Gas Leak Triggers Mass Evacuation and Shuts Down Businesses”

An emergency unfolded in Old Montreal this morning as a significant gas leak triggered the evacuation of numerous residents and the temporary shutdown of nearby establishments. The alarming incident took place at the intersection of Notre-Dame and Bonsecours streets, in close vicinity to City Hall, around 7:43 a.m.

In a bid to ensure safety, authorities swiftly cut off power to a substantial portion of the neighborhood. It is anticipated that power restoration may not be completed until the day’s end.

Responding to the crisis, both the Montreal Fire Department and SPVM are actively engaged on the scene alongside over 40 firefighters and Energir personnel who are diligently working to mend the leak.
