Montreal authorities are currently looking into a second suspected arson incident that took place in a residential building in the Cotes-Des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce area during the early hours of Monday. The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on Girouard Avenue close to Saint-Jacques street. The Montreal police were alerted by the Fire Department after indications arose suggesting that the fire might have been deliberately set.
According to Jeanne Drouin, a spokesperson for the Montreal Police, witnesses observed at least one individual near the building attempting to ignite a fire on an apartment balcony. The suspect(s) quickly fled the scene, potentially using a vehicle to escape. Fortunately, there were no injuries and the damages to the balcony were minimal. Drouin mentioned, “This marks the second occurrence of a similar nature at this particular address.”
At present, no arrests have been made, and the SPVM’s arson unit is actively investigating the incident.
