The FBI has reported the arrest of a man from Vancouver in connection with an alleged drug smuggling operation involving Canadian Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding.
According to the latest update from the FBI, Rasheed Pascua Hossain was apprehended shortly after news broke that seven other Canadians were facing charges for extradition to the United States related to the same drug smuggling ring.
Hossain had a federal arrest warrant issued against him last month on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess cocaine, conspiracy to export cocaine, and conspiracy to launder money.
Although the B.C. RCMP spokesperson could not confirm the location of Hossain’s arrest, reports suggest that he is now in custody.
Ryan Wedding, who is currently a fugitive and on the FBI’s most wanted list, is believed to be evading authorities in Mexico. U.S. law enforcement has likened Wedding to a modern-day Pablo Escobar, drawing comparisons to the infamous Colombian drug lord.
It is important to note that the allegations against Ryan Wedding and his associates have not yet been subject to legal proceedings in Canada, where extradition requests will be evaluated.
