A suspect has been apprehended by the RCMP in connection with a string of underwear thefts from a locker room at the Powell River Recreation Complex.
According to authorities, the thefts began in August when the first victim reported that their undergarments had disappeared from a locker in the family change room while they were using the pool facilities. Subsequent reports followed, with three more individuals coming forward in September to report similar incidents of underwear theft.
On November 13, police arrested the suspect as he was leaving the recreation center with stolen undergarments in his possession.
Staff Sgt. Lee Dyson expressed deep concern over the crimes and emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated. He commended the investigating officers for their dedication to the case, noting the challenges faced in identifying the suspect and gathering sufficient evidence for charges.
The suspect has been prohibited from accessing the facility and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Authorities suspect there may be additional victims and are urging anyone affected to contact the Powell River RCMP at 604-485-6255.
