A tragic hit-and-run incident in Scarborough last spring has led to the arrest of a Toronto man. The incident involved a 27-year-old woman who was fatally struck by a white cargo van while crossing Birchmount Road near St. Clair Avenue East on May 8.
Eyewitness Lawrence Clementes recounted seeing the woman in distress on the road before she was hit by the van and then by a dark SUV. Clementes described the chaotic scene and the failed attempts to save the woman’s life.
Despite the efforts of an off-duty firefighter present at the scene, the woman succumbed to her injuries before first responders arrived.
The subsequent investigation led to the discovery of the white cargo van in Scarborough, where the driver, 43-year-old Gregory Manzer, was arrested on charges related to the incident.
Manzer now faces legal consequences for leaving the scene of the fatal accident and for careless driving resulting in death. His court appearance is scheduled for January 20, 2026.
Authorities are still seeking information on the driver of the dark SUV that also struck the victim, as they continue to piece together the events of that fateful night.
