A body was discovered beneath a balcony after a fire broke out in Longueuil, located in the Montérégie region, late Saturday evening.
According to Jacqueline Pierre, a spokesperson for the Longueuil Police Department (SPAL), the incident unfolded when the Longueuil Fire Department (SSIAL) sought assistance with a fire that occurred beneath the balcony of an abandoned building on Saint-Charles West Street in Longueuil. Upon reaching the site, SSIAL personnel came across an unresponsive body.
Tragically, the victim was declared deceased at the scene and currently remains unidentified.
At this point in the inquiry, authorities have confirmed that the fire was accidental. The Longueuil Police Department shared this update on their Facebook page during the afternoon, also noting that traffic has resumed, and the area has been cleared.
During the investigation, Saint-Charles Street West was closed to traffic between Saint-Jean Street and Saint-Sylvestre Street.
