An Ontario lawyer facing extradition for his alleged involvement in an international drug smuggling operation is offering to adhere to what he describes as the strictest conditions of his legal career if granted bail.
Deepak Paradkar is suggesting that he be placed on 24/7 house arrest, only allowed to leave with his wife or another designated relative, and be prohibited from using any electronic devices except for his wife’s cellphone, which must be used in her presence and for specific purposes.
In addition to these measures, Paradkar, a key figure in the FBI’s investigation targeting former Olympian turned fugitive Ryan Wedding, is proposing to be under constant GPS monitoring and surrender his passport to the RCMP.
During his bail hearing, Paradkar disclosed that he and his wife are offering $2.5 million each, which he claims is almost the entirety of their assets.
U.S. authorities have accused the longstanding attorney from Thornhill, Ontario, of providing legal counsel to Wedding regarding the murder of a federal witness.
It’s important to note that these allegations have yet to be substantiated in Canadian courts, which will ultimately decide on the extradition requests for Paradkar and other Canadians implicated in the case.
