Vancouver’s Esteemed Charity Gears Up for 82nd Spectacular Annual Christmas Feast

The Union Gospel Mission is set to continue a cherished holiday tradition in the Lower Mainland this Friday.

Celebrating its 82nd annual Christmas Meal event, the Union Gospel Mission will bring warmth and community spirit to its Downtown Eastside and New Westminster locations.

According to spokesperson Nick Wells, the decision to hold the event on a weekday was deliberate to avoid overlapping with other meal services in the area, ensuring that those in need receive the support without duplication and allowing UGM staff to have a well-deserved day off.

Wells emphasized the growing demand for UGM’s services, noting longer lines and a more diverse range of individuals seeking assistance, including older individuals as highlighted by recent homeless counts.

Despite the evolving challenges faced by UGM’s guests, Wells highlighted the persistent struggles with affordability, displacement, and health concerns, echoing the issues faced over eight decades ago.

The 2025 UGM Christmas Meal is a reminder to cherish the simple joys in life, fostering a sense of community, connection, and shared meals.

The event will take place on Dec. 12, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the 601 East Hastings Street location in Vancouver, and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the 658 Clarkson Street location in New Westminster. Women and families are welcomed at the UGM Women & Families Centre, located at 616 East Cordova Street in Vancouver, from 2:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
