Ford Proposes Bold Vision for Niagara: Casinos, Theme Park, and Giant Observation Wheel to Revolutionize Tourism

Ontario Premier Doug Ford recently unveiled an ambitious plan to boost tourism in the Niagara Region by introducing new attractions such as multiple casinos, a theme park, and more. This initiative, known as Destination Niagara, aims to double the number of visitors to the region, currently drawing in 13 million tourists annually to Niagara Falls and its surrounding areas.

Ford envisions transforming the region into a premier tourist destination by extending the average visitor’s stay from less than two days to four days or even a week. Among the proposed additions are additional casinos, a new theme park, an electric tram offering stunning views of the falls, and an observation wheel akin to the iconic one in London.

To support the anticipated influx of visitors, Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria announced that the province is seeking proposals to upgrade and expand the capacity of the Niagara District Airport. The plan includes expanding the airport runway and collaborating with the federal government to facilitate passenger flights from various international destinations.
