“Mandatory Montreal Mashup: Holiday Hours Shake Up City Services!”

Montreal Municipal Services Operating Hours and Closures During Holidays

As the holiday season approaches, Montreal residents can expect some changes in the operating hours of various municipal services. While some services will operate on reduced schedules or close temporarily, many others will remain accessible to residents.

During the holiday period from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2, Accès Montréal offices and permit counters will be closed. However, residents can still utilize online services to carry out necessary procedures virtually. Any applications submitted during this time will be accepted but will be processed starting Jan. 5, 2026.

Household garbage, recycling, food waste, and bulky-item collections will continue as usual citywide, with some boroughs having adjusted pickup dates. Residents are advised to check their local schedules through the Info-collectes service. Additionally, Christmas tree collection will be done separately, with trees needing to be free of decorations and placed at the curb before 7 a.m. on collection day.

Ecocentres will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1 and will resume operation on Jan. 2 following the regular winter schedule. Most sports facilities will remain open, albeit with potential schedule variations by borough. Libraries, cultural centers, and the skating rink at Esplanade Tranquille will also have modified operating hours.

The MEM – Montreal Memory Centre will remain open throughout the holiday season, except on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, with reduced hours on Dec. 24 and 31. Space for Life museums will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25, reopening at 1 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Municipal court services will be limited, with only inmate appearances maintained at the courthouse on Gosford Street during the holiday period. The court’s call center and headquarters will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 4, along with service counters at select locations also having closure dates.

Notably, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has announced extended metro services on the night of Dec. 31, 2025, to welcome the new year.

Residents are encouraged to visit the city’s website for comprehensive details on the holiday schedules and service availability.
