Tragic Blaze Claims Two Lives in Saint-Eustache Apartment Inferno

Tragedy Strikes as Two Lives Lost in Saint-Eustache Apartment Fire

A devastating fire engulfed an apartment building in Saint-Eustache, located in the picturesque Laurentians, claiming the lives of two individuals.

The victims, identified as two adult brothers, tragically perished in the blaze that erupted in the six-unit structure on Corbo Street during the late hours of Saturday night. Emergency services were alerted to the situation with a 911 call received at 11:11 p.m.

Sébastien Laplante, the director of the Saint-Eustache Fire Department, explained, “We swiftly dispatched 30 firefighters, including reinforcements from neighboring towns, to the scene. Despite our best efforts, we rescued two individuals in cardiac arrest who were subsequently rushed to the hospital. Regrettably, both individuals succumbed to their injuries.”

The fire originated in a basement apartment, yet the victims were discovered in a second-floor unit. While all occupants present during the incident were safely evacuated, the timeline for their potential return remains uncertain as the full extent of the property damage is yet to be evaluated.

Laplante reassured, “The Red Cross has relocated all affected residents, with some temporarily staying with relatives.” The fire was finally brought under control at 12:30 a.m. and extinguished entirely an hour later.

Authorities emphasized that there is currently no indication of foul play involved in the tragic event. The Saint-Eustache fire chief stated, “We have no evidence to suggest any criminal activity at this point.”

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, a thorough investigation will be conducted by the coroner and the Saint-Eustache Police Department to shed light on the circumstances leading to the loss of lives.
