Concerns have been raised over the safety of how passengers at Montréal-Trudeau airport are hailing Uber rides.
To catch an Uber, travelers are required to book a ride on the Uber app to generate a PIN, which they then present to the next available driver upon reaching the front of the line. Unlike the usual process outside the airport, passengers do not have access to details of their driver, such as name, car, and rating, until they are in close proximity.
In a viral Instagram video posted by Jordan Laine, the wife of Montreal Canadiens player Patrik Laine, she expressed worries about the potential safety risks posed by the current system. Jordan emphasized the importance of connecting with the driver through the app before entering the vehicle to avoid potential dangers, especially for female passengers.
Aéroports de Montréal (ADM), the airport authority, stated that the modifications to the Uber procedure were implemented to reduce congestion. They highlighted the presence of signage instructing passengers to confirm their ride with the driver using the Uber PIN before embarking.
