Christmas Arson Shocks Diners: Villeray Restaurant Engulfed in Flames

Authorities in Montreal are on the lookout for individuals linked to an attempted arson at a restaurant in the Villeray neighborhood on Christmas morning.

Reports indicate that Montreal police swiftly responded to a 911 call at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Thursday reporting a fire at a building housing Trattoria Trozzo on Saint-Dominique Street, near Liege Street. Upon arrival, the police evacuated residents from the apartment above the restaurant, while the Montreal fire department arrived to extinguish the flames, as detailed by Jeanne Drouin, spokesperson for the Montreal Police.

Drouin mentioned that initial findings suggest that one or more suspects broke a window to start the fire in the restaurant before making a quick escape prior to the police’s arrival.

Fortunately, the building sustained only minor damage, and the approximately 10 evacuated residents were able to return to their homes unharmed. Authorities discovered incendiary materials at the site, further indicating the deliberate nature of the incident.

The investigation into the arson attempt is currently ongoing.
