“Dark and Cold: Over 60,000 Left Powerless as Winter Storm Slams Ontario, Reports Hydro One”

Thousands of residents in Ontario are facing power outages amid severe winter weather conditions, including heavy snow, freezing rain, and strong winds that are sweeping across the province.

Hydro One, the largest electric utility in the region, reports that approximately 61,000 customers are currently without power due to downed lines caused by ice accumulation on trees.

According to Environment Canada, different parts of Ontario can expect a mix of precipitation today, with freezing rain in Ottawa, heavy snow along Lake Superior, and significant snowfall of up to 60 centimetres in Timmins. In addition, strong wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour are forecasted for the Greater Toronto Area and southwestern Ontario.

In response to the ongoing storm, Hydro One has managed to restore power to over 88,000 customers since Sunday. However, challenging road conditions are hampering crew access and delaying restoration efforts.

As the winter storm intensifies, multiple highways in the Timmins area and northern Ontario have been closed. The situation remains dynamic, and residents are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on weather alerts.
