Emergency responders quickly contained a fire that erupted at a government building in North York, resulting in a man being apprehended and a woman hospitalized.
The incident took place at 4900 Yonge St., a facility utilized by the federal government and housing the North York Service Canada Centre along with a passport office.
According to Toronto Fire officials, the fire originated in the cafeteria situated on the building’s third floor. A woman sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment.
CityNews has learned from law enforcement that the fire is suspected to be arson, with a male suspect being taken into custody at the scene.
