Montreal residents can count on extended public transit services for a safe New Year’s Eve celebration this year. Both the STM and the REM are stepping up to ensure partygoers have reliable transportation options to get home responsibly.
On December 31, the STM will keep the metro running until 3 a.m. on the Green, Orange, and Yellow lines, providing a convenient way for revelers to travel late into the night. The Blue Line will continue with its regular service during this time.
Despite ongoing overtime strikes involving maintenance workers, the STM confirms that the extended metro hours will not be impacted. Alongside the extended metro service, various downtown bus routes will be operational throughout the night. Those planning to use public transit are advised to check the STM website beforehand to map out their journeys efficiently.
Similarly, Montreal’s REM will offer continuous service from the evening of December 31 through the following morning of January 1. This overnight service will cover the entire REM network, connecting Brossard and Deux-Montagnes seamlessly.
With public transportation serving as a safe alternative to driving on one of the busiest nights of the year, transit officials are urging residents to take advantage of these extended services for a stress-free and secure journey home after their New Year’s festivities.
