Tragic Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Woman in Midtown Toronto
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in midtown Toronto on Wednesday morning as a woman lost her life in a hit-and-run, as reported by the local police department.
The tragic event occurred at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East and Dunfield Avenue, just east of Yonge Street, around 7:15 a.m. The victim, a 70-year-old woman, was struck by two vehicles while crossing the street after a routine grocery shopping trip. Shockingly, both drivers fled the scene, leaving the woman to succumb to her injuries.
Authorities have identified one of the suspect vehicles as a “light-coloured Hyundai SUV.” However, in a positive turn of events, the driver of this vehicle, a 48-year-old named Hamid Abdul from Toronto, has since surrendered to the police.
Hamid Abdul has been charged with serious offenses including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and leaving the scene of a collision causing death. The accused was scheduled to appear in bail court on Friday, although the charges against him are yet to be proven in court.
As of now, details regarding the second vehicle involved remain unknown.
Tragically, paramedics on the scene were unable to save the woman, and she was pronounced dead at the intersection.
