The Sherbrooke police are currently conducting an investigation into a mysterious death that occurred in an apartment on Bowen Street South.
A 44-year-old woman was discovered unconscious at the location following an emergency call made around 3:15 a.m. on Friday.
According to Benoît Pellerin, a spokesperson for the Sherbrooke police, the woman’s death was confirmed at the scene after paramedics’ resuscitation efforts. Pellerin mentioned that certain aspects of the incident raised suspicions for the police, although he did not disclose the specifics of the injuries to avoid hindering the ongoing inquiry. The identity of the victim has also not been disclosed.
While the building comprises approximately 20 apartments, evacuating the premises was deemed unnecessary.
Authorities secured the scene earlier on, with the criminal investigation division and a forensic technician analyzing the area, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses to kickstart the investigation process.
At this stage, no particular hypothesis is being favored, and there are no identified suspects in the case. The police are diligently working on reconstructing the events leading up to the victim’s death, exploring various possibilities including the involvement of alcohol or a potential fall.
Further steps are pending, with the awaiting of expert reports and an upcoming autopsy to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death. The police, in collaboration with the coroner, aim to determine and verify the precise causes of the tragic incident.
