Auston Matthews has secured his place as the top goal scorer in the illustrious history of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
By netting his 420th and 421st goals during a game against the New York Islanders, Matthews surpassed the previous record held by Mats Sundin to become the franchise’s leading goal scorer.
The exceptional player managed to score twice within the second period of the game to clinch the historic achievement.
At just 28 years old, Matthews, the captain of the Maple Leafs, boasts an impressive record of 421 goals and 339 assists in 663 games, all of which have been with Toronto.
While Sundin finished his career with a total of 564 goals, it’s worth noting that 144 of those goals were scored during his initial four seasons with the Quebec Nordiques.
