Toronto police officers rushed to the rescue of a stabbing suspect who plunged into Lake Ontario on Sunday afternoon while trying to evade authorities.
The incident unfolded when a distress call came in just before 1 p.m. reporting a woman had been stabbed in the area of Bellevue Avenue and College Street. Responding officers found the victim with injuries that were not life-threatening and promptly transported her to a nearby hospital.
The male suspect, believed to be the assailant, managed to flee the scene and was subsequently tracked down near Lakeshore Boulevard and Remembrance Drive. Attempting to evade capture, the suspect leaped into Lake Ontario, prompting a daring rescue operation by marine officers. During the rescue, one officer was injured in a stabbing incident.
Following the rescue operation, the suspect was apprehended by authorities, and the injured officer received medical attention at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police disclosed that the victim and the suspect were acquainted with each other but did not provide further details about their relationship.
